Though Conacher's speed and offensive instincts are evident, more impressive for coach Guy Boucher is his defensive awareness, especially his willingness to back-check.
"He's proving he can play," Boucher said. "He's adapting every day. Usually when guys adapt that quick, there's a lot more coming. But he has to keep showing he can be reliable to be put on the ice on the NHL level."
Conacher hasn't come completely out of nowhere.
He had a successful four seasons at Division I Canisius College in Buffalo, N.Y., from where he graduated with a finance degree and 12 school records, including 62 goals, 12 winners and 147 points. He also is a distant relative of Hall of Famers Charlie and Lionel Conacher.
But he is small — 5 feet 8, 175 pounds — which probably is why he was not drafted, though he is about the same size as Marty St. Louis.
"Now he's with an organization that believes in what small guys can do," Canisius coach Dave Smith said. "He goes to the dirty areas, to the corners. He battles. He does whatever the situation calls for."
Conacher has Type I diabetes. He checks his blood sugar before games and between periods, and takes insulin whenever he eats, using a pump about the size of an MP3 player that he attaches with a needle to a port in his left hip.
"It's all about eating right and getting enough sleep," Conacher said of dealing with his condition.
As for what he's dealing with at camp, "It's been an awesome experience. Whatever happens, happens. I'll go wherever they want me to"

ez igaz. fizikálisan valóban benne lehet még 1-2 szezon, akár backupként is. a kérdés inkább az, hogy mennyire tudja majd motiválni magát és mentálisan felkészülni újra meg újra, ha nem kerül közelebb a kupához egy tapodtat sem

CD-t én is sajnálom de gondolom ő se akar már tovább AHL-ezni.
Amúgy én abban reménykedem hogy nem ez lesz az utolsó szezonja Rolonak. Végül is Chelios meg Howe is milyen sokáig nyomatták. Meg olvastam valahol egy Rolo interjút amiben mondta hogy fizikálisan most jobb formában van mint a karrierje elején. Jó gondlom már nem bírna annyi meccset mint régen de biztos megtalálják a megfelelő egyensúlyt Garonnal.

ha nem sérül le, akkor szerintem hozza a tavalyit.
azt modnjuk nem hiszem, hogy idén is olyan messzire jutnánk, mint legutóbb. de a kötelező PO-ban azért bízok. továbbra is tartom, amit SY-ék mondtak egy éve: ez egy 4-5 éves történet, aminek a végén stabil kupaesélyes csapattá válhatunk. tavaly kijött a lépés, meg még mindenkinek új volt, amit csináltunk. mondjuk ennyi sérülttel ez így is nagyon nagy szó. de idén már külön készülnek ránk. ráadásul szerintem elől gyengültünk.
szóval én úgy gondolom, hogy Rolonak lesz egy szép éve, aztán be is fejezi. azt meg nagyon sajnálom, hogy CD-t elpasszoltuk, sérülés ide vagy oda. nem hiszem, hogy Toki lenne a jövő. szerintem ő megmarad reménységnek. Rolo meg remek mentora lehetett volna a kis quebecinek...

Amúgy az idegenbeli mezünk szerintem iszonyat jól néz ki. A gatya meg mez meg így az egész. (még ha Leafs koppintás akkor is) A hazait még szokni kell :)

amúgy azért az bíztató, hogy amíg nem Janus védett (első 30 percek), addig a Blues mindkét meccsen csak alig-alig találta el a kapunkat és gólt is mindössze egyet-egyet szerzett. Jaroslavról még kicsit sok a rebound, mondhatni ezen a szinten rengeteg. de nem baj ez, szoknia kell a légkört, mert idővel ő is itt fog védeni valamelyik csapatban

Janus isn't the guy, but if they were going to give him a game, they should have just given him one instead of spreading it out over two.
I know there are still pre-season games to be played, but when are we going to stop splitting time for the goalies? I think the Blues definitely benefited from knowing that Ben Bishop was their guy for the game (unless circumstance arose).
The last goal against Janus (IIRC) was interesting because none of the guys wearing a Lightning sweater were particularly familiar with the team's system. Namestinkov, Johnson, etc.
Boucher definitely likes Conacher. I'd be surprised if he doesn't get an NHL contract, not because of necessarily how he played, but because of how he was used.
Jones meanwhile became used less frequently as he seemed to have a hard time staying on his feet, including once that helped lead to a goal against. I'm not sure what this says about him. The ice was bad, but it affected the Lightning seemingly a lot more than the Blues. Of course at this point, the Blues are just glad they're not on roller blades.
I think in an overarching sense, we may be on track to encounter the problem we had last season: not knowing when the season starts."

MEDICAL MATTERS: AHL Norfolk G Dustin Tokarski, held out of practice for the second straight day, had two MRI exams to try and pinpoint the mysterious injury that has limited him since April. It was originally believed Tokarski had an abdominal injury, perhaps a sports hernia, but tests could not confirm. Now it is believed he might have pelvic tendinitis.
GOALIE ROTATION: With Tokarski's status uncertain, Jaroslav Janus, at least for now, is the organization's No. 3 goaltender.
As such, he will play half games in the Lightning's preseason opener tonight at St. Louis and Wednesday against the Blues in Orlando.
Janus will split time tonight with Mathie Garon and Wednesday with Dwayne Roloson. Garon and Roloson will split Friday's game at the St. Pete Times Forum against the Panthers, Boucher said.

About 1,400 people watched the Lightning practice and scrimmage Saturday. The team has said it is closing in on selling 11,000 full season tickets, more than double last season's 5,000.
In other words, owner Jeff Vinik is feeling pretty good about the direction of the organization. "We have upward movement on the business side," he said. "Obviously, I'm thrilled by that."
